Lebanese youth are the future leaders of Lebanon. Their skills and their abilities are crucial to the long term prospects of the Lebanese economy. The Partnership has implemented several programs to help Lebanese youth hone their skills and receive valuable training.
Internships: The Partnership is working to plant the seeds of long term economic growth by placing qualified Lebanese interns in Lebanese businesses and government agencies, as well as in top U.S. corporations.
The second batch returns back to Lebanon.After 6 months training at Cisco headquarter in the United States, the graduates come back to Lebanon to enter the professional market.20 Lebanese graduates from the Cisco headquarters in the US made their way through the arrival gates of Beirut International Airport. After 6 months of professional training in the United States, the young graduates came back to Lebanon on December 17th with one mission: enter the professional market and benefit the country from the skills they have acquired throughout their heavily planned training in various departments at Cisco.

These interns aren’t the first beneficiaries of the Partnership for Lebanon’s workforce training program, but it adds another string of success to the long projects’ list. As a matter of fact, the Partnership for Lebanon has set an objective to train 125 young graduates and help them enter the professional market place in Lebanon. Until today, 75 interns underwent training at Cisco, who has also placed 25 interns at the Center for Development and Research in Lebanon (CDR).
The objective of this program is to convey the international business expertise of large multinationals like Cisco to the future business leaders of Lebanon, giving them the knowledge and training they’ll need to compete in a global marketplace.
The ultimate goal is to plant the seeds of long term economic growth in Lebanon by giving Lebanon’s future leaders the tools they need to compete in a global market place and create thriving businesses. Therefore, training the youth to be leaders of the 21st century is a key element of that growth.
The success rate of the program, so far, has been, unquestionable. More than 95% of the interns have been placed in leading companies in Lebanon within one month after the completion of their training.
“It’s wonderful hosting interns here at Cisco,” says Christina McGlew, intern manager. “They’ve done excellent work, added value to our business and they’ve also proven to be great friends and colleagues. I think we’ve learned as much from them as they’ve learned from us.”
“This is an experience I’ll never forget,” says Karim Kattouf, a former Partnership intern. “Having the chance to come to the United States and work side by side with professionals in top companies was an unbelievable opportunity. | IT Academies: Microsoft’s IT Academies offer world-class technology curriculum to help students acquire cutting-edge and in-demand IT skills. The academies provide rich online learning resources for anytime, anywhere learning for both instructor professional development and for student hands-on learning. The academies also link learning with real-world job skills to help students graduate with the IT skills they need to become successful in today’s job market. The overall goal of the IT Academies is to create a skilled workforce for employers so that applicants with the right technology education and skills are available in the workforce. To date, 2,000 students have been trained and 650 have been certified.
Networking Academies: Cisco’s Networking Academies, designed to give students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in an instructor-led environment, provide students with the skills to design, build and maintain technology networks. In addition to doubling the number of Networking Academies in Lebanon from 22 to 45, Cisco is hoping to increase the number of skilled IT graduates in the country. Furthermore, 2007 and 2008 Networking Academy graduates are being placed at the Council of Development and Re-construction (CDR) in Lebanon where they’ll be mentored on projects enabling them to utilize IT skills and gain hands on experience.
Education: The Partnership has come together to assist the Lebanese government in developing sustainable models of K-12 education by drawing on the joined experiences and contacts of our members around the world. The Partnership’s “School in a Box” initiative will allow schools to integrate technology in their teaching and learning. The Partnership has also committed to initiating a National Education Network that will connect schools with the Ministry of Education and provide a range of new and exciting possibilities for education.
